Terra-Sana: Conserving nature - caring for people

The name Terra-Sana is vision and programme alike: terra (from Latin = earth) and sana (from Latin = healthy) wishes to create a healthy earth in which all living organisms, including human beings, can live in harmonious co-existence.

Terra-Sana environmental consulting was founded by Dr. Thomas Schaaf in Freiburg, Germany. It advises governments and NGOs in creating, managing and evaluating Biosphere Reserves. Biosphere Reserves are regions which countries designate as large protected areas and which can be internationally recognized by UNESCO.

Biosphere Reserves are very special places:

  • They ensure environmental conservation.
  • Sustainable development is practiced within Biosphere Reserves.
  • They are research areas to study the interactions of people and nature; in this way, innovative solutions can be worked out for a harmonious co-existence between people and their environment.
  • Through the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, experience on tested management approaches can be shared globally.

Terra-Sana environmental consulting, helps you and your area to become part of UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves within UNESCO’s "Man and the Biosphere" (MAB) Programme.

With a first-hand work experience in 65 Biosphere Reserves the world over, we offer you a variety of services that may help contributing to a "healthy earth".
